I am realtively new to sudoku. Could somebody take a little time and explain the logic behind triples.
Thanks

I'll try. If in one row, column or box, there are three cells whose only possibilities are the same three numbers, then those three cells must contain those three numbers. We may not know which number goes in which cell, but we do know that they can't go anywhere other than those three cells. Therefore, all possibilities for those three numbers can be eliminated from other cells in that row, column or box.
Let's use 123 as an example. The three cells can contain the numbers in various combinations, such as:
123-123-123 or 123-12-13 or 12-13-23 or 123-23-123, etc.
So 1, 2 and 3 can all be eliminated as possibilities from all other cells in that row/column/box.
The same principle applies to pairs and quads. For example; two numbers confined to two cells or four numbers confined to four cells.
If you Google sudoku techniques or solving techniques, you will get lots of hits from various sites which explain numerous techniques, often with illustrations.
Welcome to the asylum, we can always use more inmates. |
