Despite the rating this seems to be one of the few that

Play this puzzle online at the Daily Sudoku site
The Grade button still signifies a VH but putting in the sole candidate 8
in box 5 (or row 5 if you prefer) and pressing the Grade button gives
Easy. Disappointing, but doesn't often happen.
I could be wrong of course....

Hi
When I paste into HoDoKu and press "Solve up to"... it solves this puzzle completely using "basics".
These are the default "basics" for HoDoku...
Full House
Naked/Hidden Singles, Pairs, Triples, Quads.
Locked Pairs and Triples.
Pointing and Claiming. |

If you post the grid at the point that you're stuck, someone can tell you what you're missing. We know that it has to be something basic because 'basics' are all that are needed to solve it! |
