This is my headache:
91- /76- /-4-
684/132/795
7-2/4-9/1-6
--------------
34-/-71/-28
578/293/461
12-/-4-/--7
--------------
2-1/9-7/6-4
49-/-16/-7-
867/-24/-19
Even the hint gave me no clues
Hope anyone is able to tell me why the next logic step is what it is.
The hint was: r6c8 = 5

|

Hi, Baldrikke! Welcome to the forum.
This is a classic "X-Wing" position. You need to think about the possible places where the digit "3" can be placed.
-- There are only two spots for a "3" in row 3, at r3c2 or r3c8.
-- Similarly, there are only two spots for a "3" in row 7, at r7c2 or r7c8.
-- Notice that these line up in columns 2 and 8. Therefore there's either a "3" at r3c2 and a "3" at r7c8, or else there's a "3" at r7c2 and a "3" at r3c8. Either way there cannot be a "3" at r6c8, so that cell must contain a "5".
I hope that clears it up for you! dcb |

Hi David!
Thank you ever so much!
Even though I have solved puzzles for quite a while now
this is the first time I ever had to use the X-wing solution
I actually thought I'd never had to do that
My father and I will eventually get some sleep now
after days of pondering over this puzzle.
Thanks again!
Regards, Baldrikke |
