I couldn't find moves that opened it up and I ended up using an embarrassingly high number of steps.
Code: |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 7 . . | 8 6 3 | . . 2 |
| . . 4 | . . . | 9 . . |
| . 8 . | 9 . 2 | . 3 . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 3 . 6 | 4 . 1 | 2 . 8 |
| 9 . . | . . . | . . 3 |
| 8 . 1 | 2 . 9 | 6 . 7 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . 6 . | 3 . 4 | . 7 . |
| . . 3 | . . . | 8 . . |
| 1 . . | 6 5 8 | . . 4 |

Marty,
This is a trivial puzzle. Did you post the wrong one?

Keith, the puzzle posted is not the one I intended to show. I don't know what a trivial puzzle means. Below is the Menneske puzzle I meant to post.
Code: |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . . | . . 5 | . . . |
| 9 2 8 | . 3 4 | . . . |
| 5 7 . | . 6 . | . 1 . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 7 1 . | . . . | . . . |
| . 5 9 | . . . | 8 6 . |
| . . . | . . . | . 3 1 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . 6 . | . 8 . | . 4 9 |
| . . . | 3 7 . | 6 2 8 |
| . . . | 4 . . | . . . |
+-------+-------+-------+

Marty,
"Trivial" means it can be solved by singles only. It does not even need any pairs or naked sets.

There is a Type 1 UR (57) that does not help much.
Then, it needs a bunch of chains. I do not see a clever solution.

Yep. After the useless UR there were M-, XY- and Finned X-Wings. Then four chains and finished it off with coloring, which I guess is a form of chain. |
