Hey! Cool! It reminds me of the 'heart' chess problem that the great chess problemist Pal Benko composed a few years ago. I'm sure that my wife never found problem solving very romantic though. If she came across a turtle that had accidentally flipped over on its back, I don't think she could solve it. I think I'll go solve this one right now (hopefully).
Update:
Here's the VH heart shaped puzzle.
Code: |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . 5 2 | . . . | 4 3 . |
| 3 . . | 1 . 9 | . . 8 |
| 7 . . | . 4 . | . . 6 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 5 . . | . 6 . | . . 7 |
| 9 . . | . . . | . . 2 |
| . 4 . | . . . | . 1 . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . 8 | . . . | 6 . . |
| . . . | 7 2 8 | . . . |
| . . . | . 3 . | . . . |
+-------+-------+-------+
|
And here's the grid after basics. I liked the fact that it be could solved with a 'standard' VH move for this site!
Code: |
+------------+--------------+-------------+
| 1 5 2 | 68 78 67 | 4 3 9 |
| 3 6 4 | 1 5 9 | 27 27 8 |
| 7 8 9 | 23 4 23 | 1 5 6 |
+------------+--------------+-------------+
| 5 2 13 | 89 6 13 | 89 4 7 |
| 9 137 137 | 3458 18 1345 | 358 6 2 |
| 8 4 6 | 2359 79 2357 | 359 1 35 |
+------------+--------------+-------------+
| 24 379 8 | 459 19 145 | 6 27 135 |
| 6 13 135 | 7 2 8 | 35 9 4 |
| 24 79 57 | 4569 3 1456 | 27 8 15 |
+------------+--------------+-------------+
|
Solution: Quote: | 18-9 XY Wing with pivot at r5c5 so r79c4,r6c5<>9; stte. |
And for anyone that's interested, here's the link to Pal Banko's heart shaped puzzle that I mentioned. What could be nicer on Valentine's Day than destroying your wife at a game of chess?
