The 36-2 XY Wing with pivot at r4c8 doesn't solve it but...

The 47-8 does it, rendering the 36-2 unneeded. I played the latter, thinking it solved. |

I test a potential solution by putting the result of e.g. an xy wing into draw play and press the grade button. So putting the 8 at r1c1 into the virgin puzzle changes it from v hard to medium So this proves that the xy 478 does solve it |

Good point Marty! The way I worded it, you can't tell whether the 36-2 is necessary or not. I should have said 'The 36-2 doesn't solve it (and turns out not to be necessary)...' I've got to be more careful in the future!
Hey! That's clever George! But I've seen Sammy's program say more than once that something was VH when there was a non-VH solution. I think I'll keep working it out with pencil and paper - with very light pencil marks when necessary. (I'm no Keith. I need my pencil marks!) |
