I took the time today to solve it with pencil and paper. The thing to remember in order to get off the ground is that nothing is less than 1 for any row, column, or box and nothing is greater than 9 for any row, column, or box - so if any cell has a greater than sign leading out of it then it's not a 1 and if any cell has a less than sign leading into it then it's not a 9. I started by filling in the 9 and 1 in row 8 - and then I was able to fill in the rest of the 1's and most of the 9's after that. If you have any questions about how to proceed anywhere along the way let me know. It will help if you're used to doing both Sudokus and Futoshikis.
Code: | 5 8 7 1 6 2 9 3 4
3 6 9 7 5 4 2 1 8
2 1 4 8 9 3 7 5 6
6 4 3 9 1 8 5 2 7
1 7 5 2 4 6 3 8 9
8 9 2 3 7 5 6 4 1
9 5 6 4 3 1 8 7 2
7 2 1 5 8 9 4 6 3
4 3 8 6 2 7 1 9 5 |

Well done dongrave!
Patience, persistence and skill in decoding the symbols! I’m not convinced that it is “greater than sudoku” but thanks to sobspaour for providing an interesting variant. |

Thanks Mogulmeister! He said that it's "A greater than Suduko puzzle" so I don't think that he was trying to imply that it's greater than Sudoku, just that it's a Sudoku puzzle with a bunch of 'greater than' signs in it! Since it's a combination Sudoku/Futoshiki puzzle I'd probably refer to it instead as a 'Sudoshiki' (or maybe a 'Fudoku') |

Interesting - I’m normally good at puns! I like the new name Sudoshiki particularly! |

I'd like to thank Pat for providing this link! I checked them out and have done a number of the puzzles and a few of their 'Hard' puzzles were much more difficult than the one that was listed here. I wouldn't call these 'Greater Than' Sudokus, I'd call them 'Longer Than' Sudokus! Each one took me about 4 times longer to solve than a difficult Daily Sudoku puzzle. |
