Sometimes you don't have to complete all the basic moves to find a solution
At this stage, r4c7 = 1 to solve
Code: |
+--------------+----------+------------------+
| 56 2 1 | 9 8 3 | 4 7 56 |
| 4 35 358 | 56 7 1 | 9 2 356 |
| 356 9 357 | 56 4 25 | 8 1356 1356 |
+--------------+----------+------------------+
| 158 14-5 6 | 2 3 9 | a15 14-58 7 |
| 9 35 358 | 4 1 7 | 2 b568 c568 |
| 7 14 2 | 8 5 6 | 3 14 9 |
+--------------+----------+------------------+
| 15 7 4 | 3 2 58 | 6 9 158 |
| 135 6 35 | 7 9 458 | 15 13458 2 |
| 235 8 9 | 1 6 45 | 7 345 345 |
+--------------+----------+------------------+

From Gianni's grid, r2c2=5 to solve
If r2c2=3, then you would get a <56> pair in box 1 and box 3 which would then leave no room for a <5> in row 7 |

I used the X-Wing of 5's in rows 1 and 7 (see Gianni's grid) and that opened up a couple of 356 XY-Wings which solves it. |

Also if r2c2=3 you would get a <56> pair in box 1,2 and 3 which looks to me as a type of Unique Rectangle. Or is it something else? |
