The 9 Aug 2006 Very Hard proved to indeed be very hard for me. The beginning was fairly routine but when I reached this point, I came to an end. Can anyone point out what the next step is??

Inspecting boxes 4 and 6 shows that the 4s they contain must lie in rows 4 and 6. That is, 4 falls to be eliminated from r6c4. This discloses a pair, (49), in column four which solves the puzzle.

I had looked at the 4's as part of an X-wing but passed it by when I saw multiple 4's in column 1 and row 4. I now realize that the 4's were constrained by the boxes. The rest of the puzzle was easy once you got past this point (and easy up to this point).
