Hi - I'm trying to learn techniques in solving sudoku puzzles, and am getting better. But I am trying to solve a hard puzzle from the archives and am stuck. I asked for a hint, and was offered the red 7 in the image below, but I don't see how it can be determined. Can someone help me see how the 7 can be found? Thanks -

| In row 4, I see a 57 naked pair. (I think that is the right terminology?). So the 5 and 7 in row 4 have to go in columns 3 and 8. (Though we don't know yet if it's 5 7 or 7 5). That means that row 4 column 4 cannot be 5 or 7. Then you have only 1 possibility for a 7 in column 4. |
