Hello everyone. New to the sport. I didn't manage to get that far. My puzzle till now is like this
8-1/--4/7--
--5/7--/-38
6-7/9-8/45-
5-9/--1/---
-7-/-9-/-15
---/--5/3-9
-52/1-7/--4
78-/--9/---
--6/8--/5--
and the hint says r9c6=3. Any help with the logic of it? Thanks. |

Junior,
In column 6 you can put a 3 in either r5c6 or r9c6. Looking at the 3x3 box on the top left. It can only have a 3 in either r1c2 or r3c2. In the middle left box you can only have a 3 in r5c1 and r5c3. You can't have a 3 in r4c2 or r6c2, because there has to be a 3 in r1c2 or r3c2 (otherwise you would have more than one 3 in column 2). We can eliminate the 3 from r5c6 because we determined that for row 5 the 3 has to be in r5c1 or r5c3. Now the only place for a 3 in column 6 is r9c6. I hope this makes sense. Draw in the3's in their possible places as you read through this.
When I do a puzzle, I look in the 3x3 boxes to see if there are any numbers that can only be in a straight line, that is only in one particular row or column. I pencil them in (small to make room for other possible numbers) and circle them. I look for these pairs as I'm working on adjacent boxes because I can elimate them from other locations in the same row or column.
Good luck and don't give up! |
