This puzzle is rather peculiar. VERY basic up to here:
Code: |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 7 48 1 | 3 9 5 | 2 46 68 |
| 6 9 48 | 1 2 7 | 48 5 3 |
| 2 5 3 | 6 4 8 | 1 9 7 |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 18 1468 7 | 9 56 3 | 48 2 158 |
| 3 2 5 | 8 1 4 | 6 7 9 |
| 9 1468 48 | 7 56 2 | 3 14 158 |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 5 7 6 | 2 3 1 | 9 8 4 |
| 4 13 9 | 5 8 6 | 7 13 2 |
| 18 138 2 | 4 7 9 | 5 136 16 |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
|
With so many {4,8} cells, I started looking for w-wings and this one is rather effective:
r6c3<>8 => r6c8=1 => r4c7=4 => r2c7=8
Therefore r2c3=4
and it's singles again until the end.
P.S. Practically the same elimination can be made by coloring on 4
-r6c8=r4c7-r2c7=r2c3- which removes 4 from r6c3, giving r6c3=8 |

Hey! Forget W-Wings. Go for the remote naked pair {48} at R6C3 and R4C7 (joined classically by the pair of {48}s in R2). It wipes out the <4>s and <8>s in R4C12 and R6C89 and solves the puzzle. |

Another option is the ER for digit <4> in Box 4 (|_ shaped hinge),
eliminating <4> in R6C8, solving the puzzle. |

I will I will ...
If you protect me from the wrath of the gods that be - and no I dont want to get into that w-wing / remote naked pair discussion again (I do realize there are only {4,9} pairs on your classic path so it is a true approved Seal of Atlas government appointed remote naked pair )

Isn't this just simply the technique known as "Remote Pairs", a simple chain of pairs, as opposed to two pairs joined classically by another pair of pairs? |

Hey there, nataraj, what do you expect from an activity that has jellyfish, squirmbags, Bowman Bingo, bifurcation, Sue de Coq, death blossom, fishy cycle, 3D Medusa, skyscrapers, mutant fish, kites, wings, loops, wraps and other such goodies? |
