I was able to solve the problem, but it required taking a guess. Could someone explain the logical progression from the following point:
-/7/- 5/-/2 6/8/-
-/-/5 -/-/- -/1/2
6/8/2 -/4/1 5/3/-
2/3/7 -/5/- 9/4/1
8/-/- 2/7/9 3/6/5
9/5/6 4/1/3 2/7/8
-/2/- -/8/4 -/5/-
7/6/- 1/2/5 8/9/3
5/-/8 3/-/7 -/2/-
Thanks in advance. |

I am not sure if you mistakenly entered too much info but based on your entry, the next step is obviously the 4 to complete the eight row which then allows the completion of the 1's and 4's in the first 3 columns leading to an easily solution. |

hint: the 4 can only be in block one and in the first row, thus ... |

eh row=column (it`s so confusing, I am refering to the vertical line of possibilities) |

The 3 in the 8th row was wrong. I read it from one of my "trial & error" worksheets. |

I too got as far as OhioSaba and then got stuck but solved it by trial and error, can someone explain the logic from that point on .......
You say to put a 4 in row 8 column 9, I have a 3/4 possible for that square with another twin 3/4 in that horizontal line (column 3), I also have a 4/9 on the vertical (row 1) and another 2 possibilities for a 4 in that same bottom right square - 1/4 & 4/6
Thanks |

I also got to the position of Ohio and Waspwatcher and because a lot of the puzzle is complete can work out through trial and error. The Sudoku drawer shows the next move as a 9 in column 2, row 2. However I cannot complete the rationale for this move as it seems to me that there are options in columns 4 and 5 to complete that row and an option at the top of column 3 to complete that box.
Any advice would be gratefully received. |

In column 1 the number 4 can only be placed in row 1 or 2. What this means is that all other occurances of 4 in the upper left block can be eliminated; therefore, the 9 must be placed in 2,2.
