I've been doing Daily S VHs & Brainbashers SHs for ages, but increasingly sporadically. (Yes, you can occasionally miss a pointed pair or something, but mostly they're pretty easy.) So I've been expanding my range recently, mostly by tracking posted puzzles here: many thanks for helpful comments. I partcularly like the single-digit techniques, like continuing say an XY-wing with colouring, or bouncing round the board with ERs.
Anyway, I'm now managing to do some of my own. Here's one that took me quite a long time - no doubt some people will find a fast way through. My solution path included XY-wings extended by colouring and finned X-wings. It's a Menneske 6333924 SH. After basics:
Code: |
+----------+-------------+------------+
| 157 8 2 | 679 3 167 | 4 157 159 |
| 157 6 4 | 789 157 178 | 3 2 159 |
| 3 57 9 | 2 157 4 | 8 157 6 |
+----------+-------------+------------+
| 57 2 6 | 3 9 78 | 15 4 158 |
| 9 3 8 | 1 4 5 | 2 6 7 |
| 4 57 1 | 78 6 2 | 9 58 3 |
+----------+-------------+------------+
| 28 9 7 | 5 12 3 | 6 18 4 |
| 28 4 3 | 67 127 167 | 15 9 158 |
| 6 1 5 | 4 8 9 | 7 3 2 |

There is an x-wing in 1, which gives you a w-wing in 57, then coloring in 7 solves the puzzle. |

Thanks. Impressively fast! (Took me hours & a long-winded path because I missed the W-wing.) But don't you need a small XY-wing to finsih off? |

my way - step by step:
x-wing <1> remove 1 from r1c8, r2c5, r8c5
multi coloring <7> remove 7 from r1c6
xy-wings remove 7 from r4c7 (78-85-57), 1 from r8c7 (15-58-81)
multi-coloring removes 5 from r2c9
w-wing "57" r1c8 ... r4c1
multi-coloring: remove 5 from r2c1, r3c5 and remove 7 from r2c4,
and again coloring removes 7 from r8c6
2 xy-wings 15-57-71 pivot r3c2
guess I must have taken the looooooooooooong way! |
