this is the one trick pony for 7/13... the rule for the one trick ponies is that one technique is all that is needed to solve them, even if you have to use it more than once.
i am at a loss. I see some interesting coloring on 8 and the UR {4,5} is of no help. then there is a finned creature on 6 and 8, but that is at least 3 different techniques. I am guessing ALS is the Key here and I will leave that up the ALS people. |

Coloring is the "one trick pony".
First, the "interesting coloring" on "8" :
8:-r3c1=r6c1-r6c6=r7c6-r8c5=r8c7-r5c7=r5c2-;r3c2<>8
8:-r5c2=r5c7-r8c7=r8c5-r7c6=r6c6-;r6c2<>8
Code: |
+·····+·····+·····+
· · · ·
· · · ·
· · · ·
· · · ·
·*-* · · ·
+|····+·····+·····+
·| · o ·o o·
·| · · ·
·| *---------* ·
·| · · ·
·* o · o *· o·
+·····+····|+·····+
· · *·o 7·
· · / · ·
· · *---* ·
· · · ·
· · · ·
+·····+·····+·····+
|
and later, again coloring on "8":
8:-r4c5=r4c7-r6c9=r7c9-r7c6=r6c6-;r6c5<>8
8:-r4c7=r4c5-r6c6=r7c6-;r7c7<>8
Code: |
+·····+·····+·····+
· · · ·
· · · ·
· · · ·
· · · ·
· · · ·
+·····+·····+·····+
· · 7---7 ·
· · · \ ·
· · · \ ·
· · · \ ·
· · o 9· *·
+·····+····|+····|+
· · *·o 7·
· · / · ·
· · *---* ·
· · · ·
· · · ·
+·····+·····+·····+
|
no other methods are needed ... |

Related to the coloring and as an alternate way to see it, perhaps the one trick is ER.
nataraj's first pair of colorings can be collapsed into a single application of ERs. r6c12 see r5c2 directly and r6c7 via the ERs in b985.
The second set of colorings can also be seen as two ER eliminations (and, of course, easiest of all as an X-Wing... but that's a different "trick"). |
