X-wing (2) and coloring (skyscraper - 5). Or there is an interesting UR (15) in boxes 89, either solution (7/9) of which yields a 1 in R7C7 and opens a different route. Look out for the apparent but invalid UR (59). VH status.

I found an x-wing of 6s on columns 4,6. This cleared out a 6 in box c4,r2, and c5,r2 becomes 6.
But that was the end of the fireworks for me. It is a stumper for me after that. I think maybe there is a w wing involving boxes 3 & 6, but I usually mess up m/w wings, and this puzzle was no exception. I am curious to know who finds an x-y-z solution, and what it is. Below is as far as I know to go:
Code: |
+-------------+-------------+----------+
| 6 245 8 | 245 57 3 | 27 1 9 |
| 24 249 7 | 249 6 1 | 8 5 3 |
| 3 1 259 | 8 579 259 | 4 6 27 |
+-------------+-------------+----------+
| 8 259 4 | 569 3 569 | 25 7 1 |
| 25 6 1 | 7 4 8 | 9 3 25 |
| 7 3 59 | 1 2 59 | 6 4 8 |
+-------------+-------------+----------+
| 245 245 3 | 259 159 7 | 15 8 6 |
| 9 8 6 | 3 15 4 | 157 2 57 |
| 1 7 25 | 256 8 256 | 3 9 4 |
+-------------+-------------+----------+

There is a w wing on 57s in boxes 2 and 9 (they cannot both be 7 'cos that would deny a 7 in row 3- so r8c5 cannot be 5 - unfortunarely this does not move us much further! |

The X-wing on 2 opened up a 569 XY-wing for me. |

Just to be on the safe side, I focused on <5> and used a skyscraper, an ER and a double whammy Type 6 UR.

I started off with a xy-wing on <257> with a transported pincer, a x-wing on <2> and finished off with a BUG+1.
A lot of various solutions today. Good puzzle.

Look for the x-wing on <2>, r39c36, that several others have already reported.

Wow!
There it is, an x-wing on 2.
I have no idea how long I spent on this puzzle, but that x-wing would not appear for me!
A couple of xy wings thereafter appeared to resolve the puzzle. |

I did the same, except at the point of the BUG+1, I looked around and found a kite on 5 which also finished it. |

Three X-Wings and an XY-Wing:-
1) X-Wing in 6's r49c46 eliminating 6 in r2c4.
2) X-Wing in 2's columns 3&6 eliminating 2 in r3c9.
3) X-Wing in 2's rows 2&7 eliminating 2 in r9c4 leading to an XY-Wing (569) with pivot {5,6}r9c4 eliminating 9 in r7c4 which solves the puzzle. |

One X-Wing followed by a UR (Type 1) did it for me. Fun puzzle for my level. I am not even remotely into W-Wings, skyscrapers or colorings. With the help of you good people here, I have just begun to conquer xy-wings. |
