Having trouble with the next step... been staring at this thing on and off for a few days. I usually can solve everything with X, XY, and XYZ wings. The UR in boxes 4 and 7 is there, but I prefer not to use them and I don't think that this one helps much anyway.
This is from here, btw, just a way oldie from dec. 26 06.
Thanks! |

There must be something simpler. But note the 39-59-35 XY-Wing pivoted in r8c9. Then transport the 5 pincer from r3c9 to r1c3 and remove the 5 from r8c3. I saw numerous XY-Wings that eliminate nothing. |

this is the bottom third of the puzzle, look in row 7 in box 7. the 9 is locked into row 7. means the 9 can be eliminated from r9c1.
this leads to a "rare square" xy-wing |

awesome, norm. i figured i was missing something simple like that, and it usually is that simple when i stare at a puzzle for hours. thanks.
the empty xy wings were mostly because i already caught them... there were a bunch in this puzzle. that minus 9 opens up a big xy wing in r9c1, r9c7, and r2c7, eliminating the 2 in r2c1. that does it.
thanks guys. |
