I used coloring to make an elimination in R8C3, reducing it it to a BUG+1 in R5C4.

Actually, a useless xy-wing exists on <257> with pivot <27> at r5c5 and pincers <57> at r6c4 and <25> at r9c5. Transporting the <5> from r9c5 to r7c2 via r9c3 deletes the <5> at r6c2 and completes the puzzle.

OK, time for the language police to check in. "Useless"? Wink

So, terminology always seems to be the biggest problem when we describe how we solve these puzzles. In this case, I thought I was using a term previously used by other members to indicate a condition were the original pattern did not provide a deletion but transportation, extension or coloring did.

I agree it is a funny use of the term, and would be happy to use a different one. What do you suggest?

Well, of course, I was just yankin' your chain. However, when the wing's original pincers eliminate nothing, I've seen them referred to as "flightlesss." But I'm not necessarily suggesting that you use that. Very Happy

I see an extended W-wing that does it,
and a M-wing {2,5} which has those sultry solving eyes.
happy v-day everyone.
