I created a lot of confusion the last time I posted a puzzle where there was a generalized M/W-Wing on steroids. Still, I can't just let them go unposted. So, your job is to find the VH+ solution that reduces the puzzle to the PM below.

Code:
 +-----------------------+
 | . . . | 8 . 5 | . . 9 |
 | . . . | 9 . 3 | 2 . . |
 | . . . | . . . | . . 7 |
 |-------+-------+-------|
 | 7 8 . | . 9 . | . . 6 |
 | . . . | 5 . 2 | . 7 3 |
 | 3 9 . | . 6 . | 8 . 2 |
 |-------+-------+-------|
 | . 1 . | . . 9 | . . 8 |
 | . . . | . 1 . | . . . |
 | 2 . 9 | 7 3 8 | 6 . 1 |
 +-----------------------+

Play this puzzle online at the Daily Sudoku site

===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== Ratings are Accumulative

Basics: Naked/Hidden Single, Naked Pair/Triple, Locked Candidate 1/2

Basics+: Naked Quad, Hidden Pair/Triple/Quad

VH: BUG+1, UR Type 1, X-Wing, XY-Wing, XYZ-Wing

VH+: 2-String Kite, Empty Rectangle, Remote Pair, Skyscraper, Colors, UR Type 2, finned/Sashimi X-Wing

Advanced: Multiple Colors, Swordfish, M-Wing, W-Wing, XY-Chain

Extreme: Jellyfish, (but mostly) Chain

===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== Final Step

Code:
 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+
 | *46     2347-6 3467   |  8      27     5      |  1      36     9      |
 |  58     7-6    1      |  9      47     3      |  2      68     45     |
 |  9      25     38     |  16     24     16     |  45     38     7      |
 |-----------------------+-----------------------+-----------------------|
 |  7      8      2      |  3      9      14     |  45     145    6      |
 |  1     *46     46     |  5      8      2      |  9      7      3      |
 |  3      9      5      | b14     6      7      |  8     B14     2      |
 |-----------------------+-----------------------+-----------------------|
 | a46     1      37     | A46     5      9      |  37     2      8      |
 |  58     37     468    |  2      1      46     |  37     9      45     |
 |  2     C45     9      |  7      3      8      |  6     c45     1      |
 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+

There are strong links on <4> in [r679]. This results in the strong link [r7c1]=4=[r9c2]. This strong link can be extended on each end to get [r1c1]=6=[r5c2]. Some of you may recognize this as a gW-Wing on steroids.

BTW #1: The strong links on <4> correspond to a Sashimi Swordfish pattern.

BTW #2: There's a gM-Wing on steroids present as well. Happy hunting!

[Edit: corrected thread title.]

I had used a w-wing on 46 to remove 4 in r1c3 giving me this Jelly, and notice that the sashimi sword solves it here as well, if r1 is ignored. Smile
(The sashimi removes the 4 in r8c3 which sets r5c3 to 4. )
Fun puzzle, I like big fish!!

Boy, it just hasn't been my day ... and I'm talking more than Sudoku. Fortunately, this one was correctable. Correct title for thread now in place.

Impressive. I don't check for fish when evaluating the outcome of chains. Thus, my solver only reported a single elimination outcome for your W-Wing.

Yes, and here's why.

You're implying there are three names: 1) w-wing; 2) generalized w-wing; and 3) generalized w-wing on steroids.

But AFAIK there are only two different "w-wing" patterns: 1) a chain with three strong inferences consisting of two bivalues and one bilocal; and 2) a chain with four or more strong inferences consisting of two bivalues and two or more bilocals. Of course, the bivalues are always at the chain ends.

Do you see how that could be confusing Question

Yes, I said it wasn't my day or week or ???

I was under the impression that the W-Wing had more strong link restrictions than actually exist. My apologies for the confusion!!!

I forgot the easy part. A remote pair (or 2 kites), an xy-wing and a UR get to the PM. Smile
