I was just thinking that the monster Sudoku puzzles should be 16x16 so that they are symmetrical arrangements of a 4x4 grid of 4x4 squares. Just like the "normal" ones. Then they can be done in hexedecimal using 0-9 and a-f.

Is there any reason they aren't set up that way?? Are larger ones harder to generate?

The monster section is intended to be a mix of 12x12 and 16x16 puzzles -- I've got a memory leak right now which means making 16x16s crashes my laptop Smile but they will come along shortly. Actually, there's no real reason why the boxes of squares should themselves be square -- we can have 7x7 puzzles if we like, or 13x13. I'm already using 6x6 puzzles in the kids section.

Hi Sam,

Will we have the ability to use the Draw and Hint functions with the Monster puzzles?

Yes -- and hopefully I'll get a chance to do this very soon.

yes, I've seen these pozzles with irregular boxes. They are usually
harder and it's not so easy to make easy minimal ones.
The square puzzles are more canonical, though.
I.e. when you consider them as 4-dim. grids in {1,2,3}^4

my co-worker tells me that newspapers in turkey have done irregular boxes for years now. in fact, they've done it for so long that it's hard to go back to doing squares for boxes! imagine that....
