After 6 years doing Suduko- ( I came across it in a UK newspaper and since it has covered the world !) I meet with varying degrees of success in solving easy to very hard.
Solving a puzzle is fascinating and stimulating, but what intrigues me now is how is a puzzle developed, and its degree of dificulty determined.
There have to be literally billions of combinations. has anyone determined how many ? is it 81 to the power of 81 ?.
Any reactions?

Difficulty varies by the person solving. Computer solving, all are easy, what you prefer to call hard depends on the solving method.

The original method was pen and paper. Most everyone now uses computer generation.

A lot less but still titanic.

I don't remember the answer and it will vary unless you are more specific. Any valid puzzle that you solve any square for, you can say that is a new puzzle, right up to 80 solved.
Unique puzzles are sorted, to eliminate essentially identical ones, using computers and formula. ( say you took a puzzle and changed all the 3s to 2s and all the 2s to 3s, NOT a new puzzle.
