An "almost BBDBer".

Quote:
Flightless xy-wing1-25 with vertex in r8c1 plus transport: (2)r7c2 - r7c8 = (2)r8c7; r1c7<>2,

Kraken xyz-wing235 with vertex in r7c8
(2)r7c8 - (2=5)r7c2 - r9c3 = (5)r9c8; r8c7<>5,
||
(3)r7c8 - (3=5)r9c8; r8c7<>5,
||
(5)r7c8; r8c7<>5.

type 1 UR17 in r12c57; r2c5<>17,
x-wing3 in r58c67; r8c3<>3,
coloring on 5.

I used seven steps, all of them assorted wings except the last step, a Type 1 UR.

I took Dannys hint ... three steps with a decisive xy-chain

Quote:
x-wing(3)
xyz-wing(135); r7c34<>5
xy-chain: (5=4)r6c3-(4=3)r6c8-(3=2)r7c8-(2=5)r7c2; r45c2,r8c3<>5

Well this is one of the weirdest things I have come across since I have been doing this game and has taken a little time and is, I will admit, UGLY:

I was looking at various chains to see if there was a shorter solve path or a Dan style 1 step and I couldn't really find one quckly. So, I used as my starting point the number 2 as there are strong links everywhere for this number.

I looked at the strong link between 2s at r7c8 and r2c8.

1)If r7c8 is not 2 then r3c8 is 2

2)If r7c8 is 2 then r3c8 is {1,4,8}.

So I looked at what happens in each of these remaining cases:

Set to (248=1)r3c8-(1=5)r3c6-r3c1=r8c1-(5=2)r7c2-r7c8=(2)r3c8
Set to (128=4)r3c8-r3c7=r5c7-(4=15)r45c2-(5=2)r7c2-r7c8=(2)r3c8
Set to (124=8)r3c8-(8=15)r3c6-(5)r3c1=r8c1-(5=2)r7c2-r7c8=(2)r3c8

So perhaps I am going mad but r3c8 is 2 whatever you do and if so that solves the puzzle!
Shocked Question Question

Mogulmeister,

I plugged it all into xsudo and it works.

basically, you shown that with each candidate in r3c8 set to true, the 2 is true in r3c8 all four times.

or, you can view it as proving that the 1,4,8 don't belong in that cell.

Mogulmeister, your move is fantastic Exclamation Exclamation

Finding "non-standard/unique" steps is a special pleasure of playing Sudoku.

Great move..............

Mogulmeister,

Yes, I've seen this previously. If the Players' Forums was up, I'd point you to a thread on forcing chains by Jeff. You have an example of a network with four streams (from one cell) and a common assignment in each stream.

Code:
stream #1) r3c8=2                    r3c8=2
stream #2) r3c8=1 ... r7c2=2 r7c8<>2 r3c8=2
stream #3) r3c8=4 ... r7c2=2 r7c8<>2 r3c8=2
stream #4) r3c8=8 ... r7c2=2 r7c8<>2 r3c8=2

It can be turned into a common elimination by shortening your streams.

Code:
stream #1) r3c8=2            r7c8<>2
stream #2) r3c8=1 ... r7c2=2 r7c8<>2
stream #3) r3c8=4 ... r7c2=2 r7c8<>2
stream #4) r3c8=8 ... r7c2=2 r7c8<>2

Regards, Danny
