It took me a while to find the first move, but it was a good one. Yet another finned xy-wing -257 with vertex 57 in r8c9 and fin 2 in r8c9.
If xy-wing is true, r6c8<>2,
If fin is ture, (2)r8c9 - r8c23 = r7c3 - r5c3 = (2)r5c9; r8c9<>2, so the fin can be deleted and the xy-wing is true.
x-wing 5 in r15c39 finishes the puzzle.

Ted, you are having waaaaay too much fun working backwards on combination patterns.
Translation:
Code: | Empty Rectangle => r8c9<>2 followed by
XY-Wing 57+2 => r6c8<>2
|
Note: My statement above is NOT a criticism. Just an excuse to use the emoticon. |

How about a w-wing 25 extended?
(5)r4c8=r23c8-(5=2)r3c7-r3c1=r6c1-(2=5)r5c3; r4c123,r5c9<>5 |

Sure, but I prefer it in color. |

I used six moves, although I know some weren't necessary.
W-Wing (25) + pincer transport
XYZ-Wing (257)
Type 4 UR (56)
ER (5)
X-Wing (5)
XY-Wing, 235, flightless with pincer transport |

Hi, Ted,
I tried to quote your post above so you'd know what I'm talkin about, but it won't let me...
Do you think your move will work as all one chain, which ends up taking out the "fin" anyway?
Code: | xy-wing(257)r7c8,r58c9=(2)r8c9-r8c23=r7c3-r5c3=(2)r5c9 =>r6c8<>2 |

Luke, what happened when you tried to quote his post? I'm unaware of any problems with the quote feature. |

This probably isn't the best place to discuss it, but I have a ton of trouble with quote on this forum. If I write something in Word and try to paste it after a quote it looks fine in the preview but not the submission.
I'm sure the trouble is on my end somehow... |

I just tried pasting something from Word between quote tags and it worked OK. Are you talking about just text or grids as well?
If you want to pursue it, feel free to post again or PM me if you like. |
