In this almost anything example, the anything cells which are labeled with an A could be called a dual color chain or a dual M-Wing. By dual I mean the pattern is valid for 2 digits 4 and 5. The cell F is the dual fin for the pattern which makes it almost. The first advanced move I made in this puzzle uses the 7 conjugates in column 1 as the rcd for the overall pattern. If r9c1 = 7, the dual color chain is true and r3c2<>45. If r1c1=7, ALS r12c3 becomes a locked set 45 and r3c2<>45. Therefore the almost pattern and the real pattern give exactly the same cell eliminations. A word of caution here. In some cases where this occurs, it may be easier to prove that the almost pattern is true rather than use almost anything logic. That is not true in this example.l
Finned Dual Color Chain/M-Wing Example Code: |
|---------------------+--------------------+--------------------|
| 4579 1459 457B | 3 14567 47 | 8 2 456 |
| 2 3 457B | 58 14567 478 | 9 17 456 |
| 6 1-4-5 8 | 9 1457 2 | 45A 17 3 |
|---------------------+--------------------+--------------------|
| 359 259 6 | 1 257 789 | 23 4 78 |
| 349 8 124 | 6 247 479 | 23 5 17 |
| 45 7 1245 | 58 245 3 | 6 9 18 |
|---------------------+--------------------+--------------------|
| 1 6 9 | 4 8 5 | 7 3 2 |
| 8 245 2457 | 27 3 1 | 45A 6 9 |
| 457F 245A 3 | 27 9 6 | 1 8 45A |
|---------------------+--------------------+--------------------| |
After making the cell eliminations the puzzle is as shown below. My next advanced move is an extended S-Wing with cells denoted by an asterisk. The pivot for the S-Wing is the 45 cell r2c9. The S-Wing is formed from the pivot using transport so that r3c5=4 or r6c4=5 and r6c1=4. r6c1 which is the cell extension forms a pincer with r3c5 to make r6c5<>4. Note that the extended pattern is still a 2 digit pattern. In the previous extended S-Wing example I used in my M-Ring post, this was not the case.
Extended S-Wing Example Code: |
|---------------------+--------------------+--------------------|
| 4579 1459 457 | 3 1 47 | 8 2 6 |
| 2 3 457 | 58* 6 478 | 9 1 45* |
| 6 1 8 | 9 457* 2 | 45* 7 3 |
|---------------------+--------------------+--------------------|
| 359 259 6 | 1 257 789 | 23 4 78 |
| 349 8 124 | 6 247 479 | 23 5 17 |
| 45* 7 1245 | 58* 2-45 3 | 6 9 18 |
|---------------------+--------------------+--------------------|
| 1 6 9 | 4 8 5 | 7 3 2 |
| 8 245 2457 | 27 3 1 | 45 6 9 |
| 457 245 3 | 27 9 6 | 1 8 45 |
|---------------------+--------------------+--------------------| |

Alternately,
Code: | (1=457)r3c2,r12c3 - (7)r1c1 = r9c1 - (7=2)r9c4 - (2)r9c2 = <45> Remote Pair - (45=1)r3c2
