Unfortunately, I've been encountering more and more puzzles that I can't get going on. On this one I can make a couple of seemingly meaningless eliminations but can't see anything that will make a dent.
Code: |
+-------------+------------+----------------+
| 1 34 57 | 35 6 8 | 2 3479 79 |
| 34 6 2 | 1 379 79 | 349 8 5 |
| 57 8 9 | 35 4 2 | 6 37 1 |
+-------------+------------+----------------+
| 789 5 78 | 4 2 6 | 89 1 3 |
| 2 49 3 | 8 1 57 | 459 45679 679 |
| 48 1 6 | 9 57 3 | 458 2 78 |
+-------------+------------+----------------+
| 3589 2 1 | 6 3589 59 | 7 359 4 |
| 3569 7 4 | 2 359 1 | 3589 3569 689 |
| 35689 39 58 | 7 3589 4 | 1 3569 2 |

Marty, I think you are in xy-chain territory - there is a short-ish one starting (4=3)r1c2 in your grid. Don't know how effective it is. |

I looked for XY-Chains until I got eye strain. And now that I know where to look, I still can't see one that starts in r1c2. Below is a slightly corrected grid which accounts for the 35 pair in box 2.
Code: |
+-------------+------------+----------------+
| 1 34 57 | 35 6 8 | 2 3479 79 |
| 34 6 2 | 1 79 79 | 34 8 5 |
| 57 8 9 | 35 4 2 | 6 37 1 |
+-------------+------------+----------------+
| 789 5 78 | 4 2 6 | 89 1 3 |
| 2 49 3 | 8 1 57 | 459 45679 679 |
| 48 1 6 | 9 57 3 | 458 2 78 |
+-------------+------------+----------------+
| 3589 2 1 | 6 3589 59 | 7 359 4 |
| 3569 7 4 | 2 359 1 | 3589 3569 689 |
| 35689 39 58 | 7 3589 4 | 1 3569 2 |
+-------------+------------+----------------+

This was the one I was looking at...
Code: | (4=3)r1c2 - (3=5)r1c4 - (5=7)r1c3 - (7=8)r4c3 - (8=4)r6c1 ; r2c1<>4, r5c2<>4 |
If you put an ALS hat on it looks like an xy-wing...
Code: | (435=7)r1c243 - (7=8)r4c3 - (8=4)r6c1 |

Yikes, that must be the one chain that I didn't try.

Doesn't do much--except make it a one-stepper. |
