Two steps - found while exploring almost-skyscrapers - indeed you can merge these as a single move...

flightless skyscraper (5)r6c37 plus messy transport:
Code:
(5)r4c3=(5)r6c3-r6c7=r3c7-r2c9=r2c4-r7c4    =(5)r7c6-r5c6=r6c5-(5)r6c3 conflict ; r6c3<>5
                              \            /
                         =r9c9-r9c56

[Edited: changed "-r8c4" to "-r7c4".

And anyway r6c3<>5 doesn't solve the puzzle for me?
... but apart from that I'm good.. Very Happy

Ted, you must have had fun trying to "connect-the-dots" with the candidate grid for <5>.

You had me going in circles looking for an alternate way to get your elimination. First, I checked the grid with my fish solver, but it only reported "unfriendly" Jellyfish. I then (manually) looking for smaller, Kraken fish. For a long time, I was stuck on a Kraken Skyscraper, but it didn't feel "right". Finally, I realized there was a Kraken X-Wing.

Code:
 Kraken X-Wing c57\r36 w/fin cell r9c5
 (5)r9c5 - r9c9 = r2c9 - r3c7 = r6c7 - (5)r6c3

(5)r9c5 - r9c9 = r2c9 - r3c7 = r6c7 - (5)r6c3

Or include 5c9 for a non-kraken swordfish

swordfish (5)c579\r369 ==> r6c3<>5
remote fin (5)r2c9 - (5)r3c7 = (5)r6c7 ==> r6c3<>5

I know there's a distinction; but, for me, there's no difference between an sd-Kraken fin and a remote fin -- especially when both force the save vertex cell true. So, I went with the X-Wing and the longer X-Chain instead of the Swordfish and the shorter X-Chain -- which I saw and debated.

Perhaps others will see the difference. A kraken-fish deduction depends upon one or more strong inferences external to the fish. A non-kraken does not.

A couple of comments are in order.

First I now see a typo in my original post which I have edited in red: "-r8c4" should be "r7c4".

Second, I have to agree with Peter that r6c3<>5 does not solve the puzzle. I obviously made an error in cleanup, either before or after the almost skyscraper. Maybe I just had to much fun trying to "connect-the-dots".

Thanks Danny and Ron for the other perspectives on this puzzle. I had noticed the Kraken x-wing possibility after solving the almost skyscraper but did not pursue it.

Ted
