    i would've called it Ultra Medium
    ( i.e. the mediumest of all "medium" grades );
    but i now know it is rated Hard

1....2.3...45..6...7..6...8.1.....5...7.9...46.....1...2...48..7..2....5..8.7..9.

I had a difficult time with this one. There was a Hidden UR on 46; r5c1<>6, r5c5<>4. After that I saw nothing so I finished it off with Medusa, my technique of last resort.

Who or what is Patrice and why does the puzzle have two numbers?

Patrice is a player in the Patterns Game on the Players' Forums, and he might not appreciate being referred to as a "what." As to the two numbers, the first is the game number, the second is the entry number for the puzzle within that game.

Look for a hidden quad.

Hint: usually in a blank row column or box.

been so long since I've seen one I missed it....

After trying it again on Draw/Play, and playing the Hidden UR, I found a quint in box 9 which finished it off.

    yes, quad is rare

      and i especially liked Patrice's puzzle because i
      needed a triple before reaching the quad
