Another puzzle where the "right" intermediate step allows a less-complex completion step.
Code: | +-----------------------+
| . . 6 | . 9 8 | . 5 . |
| 1 . . | . . . | 9 . . |
| . 5 . | . 4 . | . . 7 |

| 6 . . | . 3 . | . . . |
| 3 . 5 | 7 6 4 | 1 . 9 |
| . . . | . 8 . | . . 3 |
|-------+-------+-------|
| 5 . . | . 2 . | . 9 . |
| . . 3 | . . . | . . 4 |
| . 7 . | 9 1 . | 6 . . |

There is nothing wrong with multiple steps. I just like to highlight methods.
Code: | *-----------------------------------------------------------------------------*
| 7 234 6 | 123 9 8 | 24 5 12 |
| 1 2348 248 | 235 57 257 | 9 248 6 |

| 6 12489 124789 | 125 3 1259 | 24578 2478 258 |
| 3 28 5 | 7 6 4 | 1 28 9 |
| 249 1249 12479 | 125 8 1259 | 2457 6 3 |
|-------------------------+-------------------------+-------------------------|
| 5 6 18 | 4 2 37 |a37 9 18 |
| 29 129 3 | 8 57 6 | 257 d12-7 4 |
| 248 7 248 | 9 1 35 | 6 238 258 |

(7=3)r7c7-r3c7=(3-1)r3c8=1r8c8 => -7r8c8; stte

Hmmm!!! I did something wrong because my solver didn't list your chain the first time I ran this puzzle. Now, it lists your chain just fine. I need to start getting some better sleep because I'm "dozing" on the job otherwise. _ _ |
