Dan, I don't know why your Skyscraper is a double; it's just a Skyscraper to my eyes.

At any rate, that was one of three solutions that I noted. The other two were a Kite on 3 pivoted in box 1 and a flightless XY-Wing on 39-8 pivoted in r5c3.

Clement, I can't see a Sashimi in c18.

I just show one.

Here is the other:

Code:
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*
 |a378   389   1378  | 4     6     5     | 1389  2     138   |

 | 5     2     18    | 7     9     3     | 18    6     4     |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 6     38    2     | 5     7     9     | 4     1     38    |
 | 1     7     39    | 8     4     6     | 39    5     2     |
 | 89    4     5     | 1     3     2     | 7     89    6     |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 2     6     38    | 9     5     7     | 138   4     138   |
 |a37    5     4     | 6     1     8     | 2    b37    9     |
 | 789   1     789   | 3     2     4     | 6     78    5     |
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*

each solves the puzzle without the other. Sorry of the confusion. Sad

After an XY-wing 3-89 in C13,
Code:
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| 378 389 37  | 4   6   5   | 139 2   13  |
| 4   39  6   | 2   8   1   | 5   39  7   |
| 5   2   1   | 7   9   3   | 8   6   4   |
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| 6   38  2   | 5   7   9   | 4   1   38  |
| 1   7   39  | 8   4   6   | 39  5   2   |
| 89  4   5   | 1   3   2   | 7   89  6   |
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| 2   6   38  | 9   5   7   | 13  4   138 |
| 37  5   4   | 6   1   8   | 2   37  9   |
| 79  1   789 | 3   2   4   | 6   78  5   |
+-------------+-------------+-------------+

There is a type 6 (type 5?) UR 13 that solves R1C9 as 1, etc. You still need a move on 3 to complete the puzzle.

When using the"fin"or "filleting"rule it is permissible for the x-wing to be missing a corner in the finned box. The fin 39 is in r2c8 in BOX 3 (the finned box). The missing corner is in r1c8(the given 2).
The elimination: If r2c8=3; r1c79<>3. If not then r8c8=3; r8c1<3> r1c1=3; r1c79<>3 which solves it.

Keith,

It can be solved by one of my favorite techniques, creating pincers from the killer possibilities. The 8 proves 9 in r5c3; r5c7<>9

Marty,

Yes. But do not forget you are standing on the shoulders of midgets. Very Happy

The original UR + X-wing was deemed a tough nut at the time.
