My early hint, coming not too far from the International Date Line:
After unusually fruitful basics,
xy wing within the first two boxes |

Play this puzzle online at the Daily Sudoku site
Yes- after a long wait for a VH found the same humdrum solution. Looking
for more interest could only find a type 1 UR leading to another
XY Wing using the same numbers. Maybe someone can find something
like a finned sashimi X wing (whatever that is....maybe I'm getting
sudoku mixed up with Star Wars....)

Hugh, if you're really interested in Sashimi, I just played one the other day. I call it a Sashimi X-Wing, don't know about the finned version.
Code: | +-------------+---------------+---------------+
| 578 3579 2 | 37 6 4 | 3579 3578 1 |
| 178 1379 6 | 5 137 2 | 379 4 378 |
| 157 4 37 | 8 9 137 | 2 357 6 |
+-------------+---------------+---------------+
| 9 8 5 | 137 137 6 | 4 237 237 |
| 6 37 37 | 4 2 5 | 1 89 89 |
| 4 2 1 | 9 8 37 | 37 6 5 |
+-------------+---------------+---------------+
| 2 57 9 | 6 357 8 | 357 1 4 |
| 157 6 4 | 1237 1357 9 | 8 2357 237 |
| 3 157 8 | 127 4 17 | 6 2579 279 |
+-------------+---------------+---------------+ |
Note the 1s in r38. Almost a Skyscraper, but not quite. Since both r3c1 and r8c1 can't both be 1s, then either r3c6 or one of r8c34 must be=1. Under either scenario r9c6 cannot be=1 and gets zapped.
Now I really don't know if you wanted me to post that, but there it is. |
