| I am new to this forum and don't understand the code for talking about certain puzzles. I have the puzzle completed to the point shown in the forum, but I also have a 9 in r4c5. But I am stuck here. |

Welcome to the forum. When you say you don't understand the "code", do you mean terms like the XYZ-Wing that Clement used above?
As to also having a 9 in r4c5, do you mean you have that cell solved for 9?

I thought I was familiar with the XYZ wing, but I didn't understand your clarification of the solution for this puzzle.
Other notation I didn't understand was 19-3 (r4c9), *37 (r6c8), and #379 (r6c9).
And yes I do have r4c5 solved for 9. |

Clement is using the # to indicate the XYZ cell (the "pivot") and the * to indicate the XZ and YZ cells. That's his way, it's not a Sudoku rule. It's intended to help the reader see the elements of the wing. It doesn't have to be marked, it's a poster's choice.
The 19-3 in r4c9 indicates that the cell consists of 139 and that the wing eliminates the 3 from that cell. You can see under his grid r4c9<>3. the <> is used by many players and understood by all players to mean "unequal." Other players choose to write that as -3r4c9.
Sudoku lacks hard and fast rules for many things and people go their own ways, making it confusing for people who are unfamiliar with the various ways of expressing things. But reading forums and puzzle solutions can familiarize a person with a lot of that stuff fairly quickly. |

I agree that sometimes the "shorthand" can be confusing (especially to someone like me who is new to notation), so thank you, Marty, for that explanation.
As to the original puzzle as shown in Clemente's post, I just reworked it and found that once the 3 is removed from r4c9 as indicated by the xyz wing, the rest is a snap as the puzzle is reduced to a naked pair and then several naked singles.  |
