Good to see you getting in there early again Marty.

For those of us who sometimes see different solutions (and usually more cumbersome solutions) there is a W-wing of 69 in r2c9 and r4c8 eliminating the candidate 9 in r8c1 which also quickly solves.

Lee, I'm unable to find a W-Wing that makes an elimination.

Sorry, I made a typo, the elimination of candidate 9 should have been in r7c3.

69 in r2c9 sees 269 in r7c9 which has a strong link on 6 to 69 in r7c8 which sees 69 in r4c8, thus 9 is eliminated in r7c3.

I think I have it right now. My mind and fingers sometimes don't work together very well.

Lee, I'm still not seeing it. Neither r2c9 nor r4c8 sees r7c3. The only way an elimination can occur in r7c3 is if the W-Wing were on cells r4c3 and r7c8.

For openers, we need two identical bivalue cells, let's say they contain XY. There needs to be a strong link somewhere (just two possibilities) on either X or Y and each of our bivalue cells must see one of the possibilities in the strong link. Whether the strong link is on X or Y, our two bivalue cells become pincers on the other number. Any cell(s) seeing both of our bivalue cells may not contain that nbumber. Back to the puzzle:

 You pointed out that there is a W-Wing on the 69 cells in r2c9 and r4c8. There are strong links in c7 on both 6 and 9. Both numbers can be removed from any cell(s) that see both r2c9 and r4c8. However, no eliminations can be made because no cell sees both those cells.

Hi Marty, I just thought I'd mention that there's also a 269 XY wing with the pivot at r2c9 which forces r8c1<>2 which also solves it.

Hi Marty, Yes, I know. I always check the VH solutions that are posted here and when I saw that your XY had a different pivot than mine, I thought I'd post it. That probably explains why I solved it twice as fast as normal - because there were two solutions sitting right there in front of me!
