Dan,

Your solver thinks it's too hard for what? I don't know if it's a very hard by Sam's standard. I didn't notice any XY- or XYZ-Wings, but I didn't check for X-Wings.

Code:

+------------+------------+------------+
| 4  6   29  | 3   28 89  | 7   5  1   |
| 7  589 359 | 59  4  1   | 2   38 6   |
| 38 25  1   | 257 6  57  | 4   38 9   |
+------------+------------+------------+
| 5  1   8   | 46  3  46  | 9   2  7   |
| 6  7   4   | 259 25 59  | 38  1  38  |
| 39 29  239 | 1   78 78  | 6   4  5   |
+------------+------------+------------+
| 2  458 7   | 456 1  346 | 358 9  348 |

Hi guys,

I read that you use solver.
Could you tell me the name of a good solver for practice?
They only solve the patterns or even create them?

Thank you Gianni

Perhaps the scheme is classified very hard because it involves the application of various basic techniques (naked pair / triple), but at the end requires only one higher level technique.
I've read that some programs classify schemes based on the number of techniques to use to solve them, and also based on a payoff that is given by the programmer to each single technique and this leads to very subjective evaluations.
But, at the end, I'm not very knowledgeable about this.

Ciao Gianni

I generally prefer to do the puzzles with special forcing chains created by me. However, I know a Solver "HoDoKu" which creates sudoku puzzles in five levels of difficulty, with a solver and an analyzer. you can download it for free from the internet.
https://www.techsupportalert.com/content/hodoku.htm-0

As for the classification of the difficulty on Robert Mauriès's site

http://www.assistant-sudoku.com/

you find in the "Niveaux de difficulte" point a very clear description of the classifications of the traditional difficulties and confronting them with the new classification of the "Technique des pistes".

Ciao a Tutti
