We know from the hints where the 4 goes in the 1st column. But what we DON'T know is WHY????? Help, please Very Happy

I worked it out like this.

Three 4s must be placed in boxes 7, 8 and 9. They have to lie in rows 7, 8 and 9. As a result the 4 for box 6 cannot be in these rows, that is, it does not occupy the first column: that column’s 1 belongs to the first box.

I hope it makes sense.
